About - Rabbi Alpren, Tehillim Series 4 CD Set

Each Psalm is given a title within a specific theme. In the course of the lesson the chapter is translated into English together with a commentary around this given theme. Chapters generally fall into two categories: those which teach or describe an often repeated theme in Tehillim, which in itself is worthy of analysis, such as Bitachon (Trust), Hashgocho Protis (Divine Providnce) or the bounty and benevolence of Nature; and those most relevant to our generation and the problems we face, such as the secular society that we live in and its influence, Chinuch Bonim (Childrens Education), Golus (Exile) and the days of Moshiach.

Many of the Lessons on Tehillim carry reference notes of Comparative Chapters studied in the class. These cross references are useful. Often an idea or concept when repeated in another setting or sequence by way of example or imagery, promotes depth and perception. At the end of the day, the more knowledge and awareness, the greater the kavonoh (concentration) when saying Tehillim. This helps in one’s search for Dveikus (closeness to Hashem)…to which Sefer Tehilim should inspire us.
